Description

Gradescope is an online grading tool for paper-based exams, quizzes, bubble sheets, and homework. Grading large-enrollment STEM classes efficiently and equitably poses significant challenges. Gradescope has the potential not only to streamline the grading process but also to ensure equity and fairness, as well as to foster students’ growth and engagement through consistent feedback.

This event aims to cultivate an interdisciplinary Gradescope community where we can explore its features, exchange best practices, and discuss how we've evolved our assessment strategies to boost student engagement and promote equity and inclusivity, with a focus on large-enrollment STEM classes.

This 90-minute online event is structured into two parts:

  1. Panel Discussion: Our event begins with a panel featuring faculty from three STEM departments within the Arts & Sciences, all of whom are experienced Gradescope users teaching large-enrollment courses. During this panel discussion, we will dive into topics such as a variety of use cases for Gradescope, its advantages over traditional grading methods, alternative assessments beyond multiple-choice questions, and recommended workflows for efficiency.  Panelist information is listed below:
  • Jim Rolf, Professor of Mathmatics
  • Daniel James, Assistant Professor of Mathmatics
  • Jency Sundararajan, Assitant Professor of Physics
  • Kevin Welch, Associate Professor of Chemistry
  1. Gradescope Training and Q&A: After the panel discussion, we’ll dedicate the remaining time to Gradescope training and addressing any questions raised by the participants. We welcome participants to share any topics/questions you’d like to include in the training during the registration process. Below is a list of Gradescope features that we plan to cover during the training session:
  • Bubble Sheet Grading
  • Collaborative Grading Tools
  • Creating Dynamic Rubrics and Providing Consistent Feedback
  • Gradescope Integration with Canvas

Registration is required to receive the zoom link. Not sure if you can attend? The session will be recorded and all registrants will receive a follow-up email that includes the recording link and helpful resources.

This event is organized by Learning Design and Technology and Center for Teaching Excellence
