We are inviting a small cohort of Arts & Sciences faculty to participate in a two‑day, in‑person Assessment (Re)Design Workshop on May 12–13 focused on strengthening course assessments using learning‑centered, evidence‑based practices. Feel free to pass this on to your colleagues who might be better aligned as well!
This workshop is designed for faculty who would like structured time and support to design or redesign a key graded assessment in one of their courses, with attention to student learning, academic integrity, accessibility, and feasible implementation at scale.
Importantly, this workshop will serve as the primary pathway for Computer‑Based Testing Facility (CBTF) pilot selection in 2026.Faculty who complete the workshop will be prioritized for participation in upcoming CBTF pilots, as appropriate for their course context.
The workshop is primarily targeting courses with enrollments of approximately 50–150 students, where redesigned assessments and proctored or computer‑based delivery can have meaningful impact. Faculty with other course contexts who are interested in assessment redesign are welcome to inquire.
Workshop details:
- Dates: May 12–13, 2026
- Time: 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day
- Location: Gilmer Hall 490 and 490A
- Lunch: Provided both days (12:00–1:00 p.m.)
- Cohort size: ~6 courses (up to two faculty per course)
- Incentive: $500 participation stipend and priority consideration for CBTF pilots/proctoring
Participants will leave with a purposefully designed assessment, a clear implementation plan, and an outline for evaluating the impact on student learning. Full participation in both workshop days is expected, as the work is cumulative and collaborative.
If you are interested in participating—or would like to talk briefly about whether this workshop is a good fit for your course—please reach out by May 1. See the attached document for more details and how to apply. You are welcome to respond to the 4 questions in the document via email to eb8ga@virginia.edu directly. Thank you!
