Connecting Physics and Biology – Revamping Physics 1 for Pre-health Students
We aim to bridge the gap between physics and biology, addressing the common issue of waning interest in learning the material, and fostering a greater sense of belonging to the course. This objective will be achieved by restructuring course materials to include specific applications in relevant fields of interest and by continuously assessing the outcome throughout the course. Given the existing active learning model for the course, this change is expected to be effective in positively influencing student mindset and interest. By facilitating thought-provoking discussions and incorporating practical experiences from biology and medicine, the course aims to engage students more deeply in the material. The outcomes of this project and its impact on the five sections, totaling approximately 500 students, will be disseminated to the university teaching and learning community through presentations and workshops.
