Academic Onboarding Course Site for College of Arts & Sciences Transfer Students
The Transfer Collab Course, a zero-cost academic support resource, was developed within the College of Arts & Sciences to address an existing need for intensive, self-paced remote academic onboarding for newly admitted transfer students to the College. The site contains a video lecture series, print guides, links to important university offices, choose-your-own adventure research modules, video introductions to university contacts, animated academic advice, and live group advising Zoom events to assist the academic transition of admitted transfer students to the College of Arts & Sciences. A “Hidden Curriculum” video series teaches students about active study techniques and an animated New Transfer Student Guide overviews transfer policies and student responsibilities in the College. The course site also contains topic-specific (ex. schedule building, curricular requirements, choosing majors) group advising Zoom events to provide ample opportunities for student engagement, content reinforcement, and community-building. This grant proposal seeks funding for the assessment and improvement of existing materials on the Collab Course Site.
