Active Learning Meet-Up: Engaging Students in Large Enrollment Courses

March 19, 2025 | 1:30-2:30 PM
  • Location: Wilson 325 (A large active learning classroom)

  • Format: In-Person

  • Audience: Faculty, Graduate Students, Postdocs

  • Registration is required

We invite you to participate in an active learning meet-up organized by A&S Learning Design and Technology (LDT). This informal meet-up features faculty panelists from Math, Physics and Psychology who have embraced active learning spaces and have achieved remarkable success stories. Additionally, we invite all faculty members who have used, are using, and are considering using active learning spaces to share their experiences, successes, and obstacles.

During this informal meet-up, we will explore innovative strategies that have proven effective in active learning environments for large enrollment classes. Key concepts may include (but are not limited to) student agency and motivation, peer-to-peer learning, instructor presence and approachability, fostering a sense of belonging, and interactive techniques for student engagement.

Let’s reimagine what’s possible in active learning spaces—together. We’ll tackle pressing questions, exchange impactful practices, and examine how active learning strategies parried with classroom furniture and technology can improve students’ engagement and learning, even in traditional spaces. Whether you’re seeking inspiration or sharing your journey, this is your opportunity to connect, learn, and shape the future of teaching.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided. This event will be facilitated by the LDT Active Learning Fellow, Matthew Street, a senior lecturer in Spanish. Our Panelists are:

  • Daniel James, Assistant Professor of Math

  • Jency Sundararajan, Assistant Professor of Physics

  • Mariana Teles, Associate Professor of Psychology
