Implementing educational escape rooms in large introductory courses in Psychology and Biology
This project will continue to expand the use of escape room activities as an active learning experience for undergraduate students in the Departments of Psychology and Biology, with the goal of boosting engagement, inclusion, and belonging in large introductory lecture courses.
The use of an educational escape room to teach the concepts of sleep and circadian rhythms, piloted in PSYC-2200 (Survey of the Neural Basis of Behavior), will be further developed for scaled up class sizes. In addition, students in BIOL 2100 (Introduction to Biology with Laboratory: Cell Biology & Genetics) will be introduced to escape room technology tailored to their subject matter. This will foster interdisciplinary faculty activity, course development, and pedagogical collaboration across departments in the College of Arts & Sciences.
