Classrooms Designed for Active Learning

Many classrooms, such as Wilson 325 (shown here) are designated Active Learning Classrooms, which means they have been designed intentionally such that the technologies and features of the room support active learning.

Technologies & Features

NOTE: Not every room has every feature

	Spaces that incorporate biophilic design have been shown to improve cognitive development and lower stress
	Nine whiteboards in all provide ample space for students to brainstorm or work on problems in groups
	Instructors and students can easily show maps, books, sketches, or equations
	Smaller handheld whiteboards are available for drawing diagrams or problem solving at tables. Some modular tables are not directly near a wall whiteboard and students may choose to use these smaller whiteboards. They may also work in pairs to problem solve.
	It is important for all students to be able to hear each other’s questions and ideas. This informal microphone can be gently tossed to all participants in the class, so that everyone can share their thinking.
	Moveable whiteboards are available for drawing diagrams or problem solving. They are a great way for all members of the group to see the problem together. These whiteboards are available where the wall whiteboards are not located directly near the modular table.
	These nine-person table clusters are optimal for students to work in small groups or individually
	Each individual table in the nine-table clusters have power pop-outs for student devices
