Interactive Pre-Laboratory Activities for the Organic Chemistry Laboratories

This project seeks to create a set of organic chemistry pre-laboratory modules/assignments that incorporate both questions probing the student's knowledge about the experiment, and interactive activities that resemble what students would do in the laboratory during the experiment. Such modules will provide a way for students to virtually interact with laboratory equipment, explore the consequences of incorrectly assembling an apparatus or changes in the experimental procedures, and ultimately learn how to successfully complete the experiment.

 

Second and Third Year of Funding

The goal in our second and third years of funding is to expand the collection of interactive pre-laboratory modules for organic chemistry laboratory courses.  These modules consist of activities that resemble what students would do in the laboratory during the experiment, providing a way for students to “virtually” interact with the laboratory equipment, and develop the skills necessary for the successful completion of the experiment.
