UVA Dept. of Statistics hosts experts for panel on applying knowledge in careers

The UVA Statistics Live! Symposium was held in Spring 2018, the culmination of virtual symposiums from the past 2 years. The intention behind these symposiums demonstrate the relevancy of statistics in today’s workforce. 

Data journalists Ella Koeze and Walt Hickey of the statistics-based publisher 538 were invited to present topics around data visualization and data and storytelling. Students also had the opportunity to attend a lunch conversation to discuss employment in various fields that utilize statistics knowledge. Ella and Walt also attended classes where students explored the guests' research process in interesting discussions for both parties.

The symposium connects the statistics material students are learning with skills currently in use in the field, a result which encouraged and motivated them to further study statistics.
