Bio

Lori is the Accessible Design Coordinator, supporting CGAS faculty in designing inclusive and accessible instruction and their implementation of accessibility accommodations. In this inaugural role, Lori’s primary duties include delivery of proactive guidance to faculty on accommodation-implementation, consultation for accessible course design, provision of workshops for inclusive and accessible design, and collaboration with the CGAS faculty/leadership, LDT team, the Student Disability Access Center (SDAC), and other university support offices (accessibility, faculty, academic) to further strategic efforts for inclusive and accessible learning spaces.

Before joining UVA, Lori served 20 years as a Special Education faculty member in the College of Education at James Madison University (JMU) and Eastern Mennonite University. Lori also served as the Faculty Liaison in the JMU Office of Disability Services, and has taught students with disabilities in Virginia, Pittsburgh, and an international school in Nairobi, Kenya.

Lori’s teaching and scholarly works are grounded in effective university teaching and learning practices, models for faculty support, change in higher education, and equitable and inclusive course design. Lori is the recipient of two National Science Foundation (NSF) grants in teaching/learning in undergraduate education, and a university Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) grant to study the university experience of students with disabilities. Lori has an EdD in Higher Education Leadership, M.Ed in School Administration and a B.S. Special Education.
